As a MUA (Make Up Artist) in training, I realize I'm not only leaning as to what looks great with one's complexion but also what is best for one's skin.
As an acne prone, sensitive yet combination skin person, I'm veryyyyy serious and picky when it comes to choosing the right foundation/ makeup that would give me the right coverage yet not break me out. The foundations I've posted here are the ones I've tried and have either worked for me or are still working.
Now when I say affordable, I mean the prices range from $12 to $40. Yes $40 is affordable because I realize the product lasts longer...so in actuality u do get more bang for ur buck with just a little that goes a long way. Some of these are drugstore brands and others are department store brands.
FOUNDATION is a type of cosmetic coverage that can be sheer or full and can be used by itself or under an application of face powder. Depending on the look you are trying to achieve, foundations come in matte and shimmer aka luminous formulas.
TIP- Oily and Combination skin should use shimmer foundations sparingly or use after applying a matte or oil absorbing face primer in the oil producing areas.
BLACK OPAL-
Drugstore brand that is hypoallergenic, SPF 15-20 and oil free. Comes in a stick, palette or liquid formula. Caters to all skin tones but works really well with dark skin gals giving a smooth finish without the ashy appearance! ($12-$20)...I'm a bit biased here cuz I freakin love this!
BOBBI BROWN
Department store brand that works really well with all skin types and tones. Abit pricey ($40+ ) but goes a lonnnnggg way in terms of shelf life and how long it stays on ur face with the same fresh appearance.
CLINIQUE
Department store brand.
Whether it's the acne or normal skin foundation, Clinique is truly dermatologist tested. I can testify that acne prone, combination and normal skin types can look fab while having ultimate skin repair with this line. Even though they are not organic, they have truly done their research in regards to health of the skin. In my books...hands down this is a NO.1 brand of cosmetics...however becuz I'm a bit anal, I alphabetically catergorized. ($20-$25)
ESTEE LAUDER
Department store brand.
This is for realz when it says 'stay in place' as it offers a seamless high end look.($36)
MAKE UP FOREVER
Department store brand.
This is freakin awesome FLAWLESS brand when it comes to merging with your skin and giving you the best appearance on camera. It was really made for the television anchors, personalities etc, who usually are under very high beam lights which may cause them to sweat and look super shiny. It mimics a waterproof formula so for those are in the sun all day, it doesn't run off that easily until it's time to wash it off.
However- combination, oily and acne prone sin types...go easy on this. Make sure to prep face 1st with an oil free matte finish primer (and a salicylic moisturizer for acne prone). ($40+)
MAC
Department store and solo brand.
If I didn't have acne-prone skin, MAC would be my ultimate NO.1. I've used MAC cosmetics for over 10 yrs and they are King in this industry when it comes to making u look flawlessly the bomb. Top celebrities are spokes people for this brand and most times some of their sales go towards charity.
However- acne-prone, combination and oily use this sparingly and not daily. In order to create a flawless look, the particles of MAC foundations and powders must be tiny enough to enter pores and transform. Daily use of this may clog pores.($25+)
MAYBELLINE BB CREAM
Drugstore brand.
I was really skeptical when I first saw this. Not in the BB cream but in the brand becuz Maybelline cosmetics don't really do well for or with me. But i saw a review by Make Up Game On Point, and she said this is a great foundation-like cream for a natural look meaning no appearance of a foundation. Offers a sheer to medium coverage.
BB means Beauty Balm and this acts like a primer, a moisturizer, a concealer, a foundation and a tone corrector all in one. I've actually been using it daily and it works well. How did I match it? Well Make Up Game On Point has my skin colour so I took a chance and ordered the 2nd darkest...and it worked! ($8+).
NARS
Department store brand.
It's a pretty good brand of foundation that does what it is suppose to do. It has sheer to full coverage, depending on what u desire. ($44)
SMASH BOX BB CREAM
Department store brand. Again this mimics a foundation but has other benefits as well. Great reviews of this by Make Up Game On Point and this is the high-end version to Maybelline's BB cream. ($39)
FOUNDATIONS I'VE TRIED & THEY DIDN'T WORK:
Maybelline- it just didn't blend well with my skin tone
Neutrogena- suppose to be dermatologist recommended but ofcourse didnt have my shade. The one closest to my skin still had a pasty white residue
Milani- pasty and ashy but has a great smell as their foundations are named after nuts..the almond smelled great but didn't match
Laura Mercier- her line didnt even have colour my skin when I was inquiring
FOUNDATIONS I WANT TO TRY: Becuz I've always heard and read great reviews on them
Covergirl Queen Collection
Inglot
Ben Nye
BH COSMETICS...this is my brand right hurrr(here)...dam they r the bomb and so affordable!
Of course I can't persuade you in what type of foundation you should use, if you even need any at all. But these are the brands I have faith in. There are other top brand but they are super pricey...I think they have gold in them which is the reason they are super expensive.
As always, have fun and be creative! THIS IS FASHIONISTA NEWZ!
