Fashion Trends for Winter 2011

My dear Fashionistas,

This winter is all about finding ur INNER FASHION ALTER EGO! I mean wear outfits you wouldn't wear or even think of wearing. Winter 2011 is about, "BREAKING THE STEREOTYPICAL FASHION BARRIERS FOR A SEASON" with the following:

GIRLY TUX:

Just wear tuxedo-type jackets with dresses, skirts skinnies or pants to give your outfit a tres chic appeal.
TIP-For a great contrast, get jackets in colours not in the same hue as your actual outfit

LONG EARRINGS:

Earrings this season are going beyond the studs or hoops of yester-year in different styles and as long as from your ear to your collar bone.

TIP- For greater appeal, wear your hair in a pony tail or bun to show off your lengths

GLITTER OR PATTERNED PUMPS:

This speaks for itself! Forget patent pumps, try Wizard of Oz glitter red pumps or lace covered heels or anything other than basic black

SLIVER ON THE SILVER:

Whether it's your blouse, pants or shoes, amp up the Hawt value with silver eyes.

TIP- Do inquire from a make-up artist which silver looks great for your skin colour (matte or shimmery) otherwise, you may appear alien-ish or sick looking!

I believe you have these things in your closet but if not, nothin's wrong with investing in a couple pieces because they will return in this cycle called fashion. So have fun & be creative. THIS IS FASHIONISTA NEWZ!

p.s.- I can't wait to post the 2012 fashion trends..you'll just love'em n I might just use my personal pix just to show u! woohoo..

Boot-me-up Scotty! Fall 2011

So MY DEAR fASHIONISTAS,

This fall, Medieval-styled boots & booties have appeared on the catwalk, in stores, in magazines and on some women's feet. I'm talking about the laced-up, buckled up boots and booties. They run from ankle-low to thigh high, in various colours and styles (biker, school-girl, work) such as chunky heeled, stiletto-type and wedges.

TIP: Ankle-low booties, wedge-heel and thigh high boots look best with shorts, short skirts and dresses. You can even pair them with the latest sequin-styled or sprakled material shorts, skirts or dresses- they balance the extra glimmer.

Either way, be assertive, check out the below sites for ideas and try new options. I heard every Fault becomes a Fashion! THIS IS FASHIONISTA NEWZ!

Metallics in the Air - Fall 2011

Hola chicas,

I know it's been a while since I wrote but I wanted to give the blog a little facelift. Remember to keep the spice always change it up more than twice! In the past months I've touched on metallic eyeshadow and nails but did you all think about metallic pants??? Girls, don't gasp! It actually looks really nice once paired with the right pieces. Now don't think about looking like Cher or Madonna, it's just a fabulous idea that's been on the runway.

DO- wear with a solid color top to steer clear of looking like a disco ball such as tan, white, black, navy.

DON'T- wear with the same colour metallic/ shiny top.

TIP-if wearing metallic shoes either find 1 the colour of the pants or match them with your top or blouse. Round toe pumps actually seals the deal a chic look.

So try a pair of metallics!!! THIS IS FASHIONISTA NEWZ!

What's ur SWEAT like?

My dear Fashionistas,

Fall has already hit the atmosphere and I'm a bit late with the opening o fmy Fall blog but better late than never. But this isn't a long one, it's just to alert you that SWEATS r in for Fall. Sweats u say? Yes Sweats but not the frumpy kind..it's SWEATERS! Sweaters for fall 2011 are either designed with the studs, sequins, cutesy designs or 70's design. In America, some states are already dropping in temps and these cute sweats will look great with skinnies, shorts and tights.

TIP-Don't wear with sweat pants..it just defeats the purpose of highlighting the top.

If you're in a hot climate, Sweaters maynt be an option. But you can look out for the next blog dat to see what's best for Fall 2011.

As always have fun & be creative. THIS IS FASHIONISTA NEWZ!

Pre-Fall Fitters 2011

Dear Fashionistas,

So a couple things to either grab from your closet or grab from a rack are the following styles:

DISTRESSED JEANS

These jeans aren't only for biker dudes n dudettes or punk rockers. This style has hit the runway in such fun, chic ways, that these same bikers n rockers will be taking a 2nd look. Pair them with dressy shirts, t-shirts and heels or booties.

TIP: Don't want to buy a pair? Take a pair of old jeans and either 1- rub sand paper over certain spots to loosen the jeans material or 2-take bleach n put on a spot, then take a razer blade and slit the bleached areas.

STRIPES:

Nautical or polo stripes are a hit this summer chic-style. Not only for polo players or boaters but anyone can pull the stripes off.

TIP: VERTICAL STRIPES elongate the body frame of curvy girls while HORIZONTAL STRIPES gives the skinny girls some body mass.

THIGH HIGH SLITS:

Can u manage such heights? Fall trend shows the celebs sporting leg candy via thigh high slits. It is classy when u show some skin and not all and this season, THE THIGHS HAVE IT!

TIP: You can invest in a long dress with a long slit or purchase a maxi dress and create ur own slit or use on old floor length dress and again cut your own slit. If you can't sew, ask a seamstress to neaten up ur cut slit.

Need help with some ideas, check out the below sites.

Hope you girls choose to play up a style and as always Have Fun & Be Creative. THIS IS FASHIONISTA NEWZ!

2nd & 3rd qtr DO & DONT'S 2011

My dear Fashionistas,

Just some quick do's n don't for the last couple months. Ofcourse everybody has their own style and how they perceive themselves, but for those who need a little guidance, check out the following:

PATTERNS:

As I mentioned before, if you have to mix patterns, DO make sure they are in the same 'shape' family or with the same 'main' colour theme. For eg. stripes will go well with plaid.
DO NOT mix stripes and polka dots or flowers since it gives a confused appearance.

COSMETICS:

Bright lips are in for the pre n post summer months so DO pull out your fuschia and bright red lip paints and DO wear with natural pigments such as bronze, gold and peach

DO NOT mix bright lips with bright eye shadow, you will defintely appear as a mad hatter.

JEANS:

DO wear jeans that fit your shape:

Curvy- flare or bell bottom

Small butts- low rise, skinny

Tummy woes- high waist jeans

DO NOT try to fit into jeans that makes your body disproportionate. Muffin tops belong on muffins not jeans!

So I always encourage creativity but some things are not for some people and just embrace your uniqness because WE ARE FASHIONISTAS! This is FASHIONISTA NEWZ!

Some Summer Soothers 2011

Okay Fashionistas,

Are you feeling the heat out there? Then yes it's definitely summer. Can you believe how these weeks have flown by already? Imagine school opens in 2 wks and it's back to the dreadful traffic days as parents clog the roads to get their kids to school. So during these couple weeks, here are a few tips i gained from my beloved Cosmo on how to keep u cool during this hot season so u dont look like a hot mess!

ANTIBACTERIAL SOAP/ WASH

Perspiration, dead cells and bacteria can give ur armpits a not so sweet aroma. So 2 combat any signs of a stench, wash your armpits with an anti-bacterial exfoliator that will not only wash away the bacteria but removes dead skin cells to give you an even cleaner feeling. I recommend Noxema daily exfoliating wash with gently microbeads to cleanse and exfoliate. Don't forget to put on your antiperspirant after which contains aluminum zironium to prevent excessive sweat. I've become a fan of Secret, Dove or Suave Clinical strength deodorant... in different flavours too.

BODY MISTS

To help keep you body cool, Cosmo suggests using a body 'mist' instead of an actual perfume since the mist is water based and keeps you cooler than alcohol based fragrances. I recommend bath and body works or Victoria's Secret body mists.

SILICA-BASED MAKEUP

For my make up wearing girls, runny make up has no chance against the ultimate face primer ingredient- silica. Like your eye primer, which once applied first to your eyes, you eyeshadow will last for hours on end. Same with the face primer. Consult the makeup artist at the cosmetic counter to inquire which make-up is silica based or a face primer that is silica based. Silica smoothes out the service of your face so when your face powder or fpoundation is applied, you not only appear air brushed but it wouldnt run or move during hot temps. Sephora, MAC, Armani and Bobby Brown are good make-up brands that offer silica based products.

LEAVE IN CONDITIONER

Once there's heat, it means something is being dried out or parched. During the summer, try spritzing your hair with a leave in conditioner that keeps hair moist and seal hair cuticles to prevent drying and splitting.

So those are a few things to try to keep you going during the summer. Don't forget to drink lots of water, water-based products like juices or smoothies and water based fruits, especially water melon. Stay tuned for more summer styles hitting on and off the runways. THIS IS FASHINISTA NEWZ!

HAT ATTACK- summer 2011

My Fabulous Fashionista Followers,

This summer heat calls for protection. Yes we are thankful that it isn't cold but speaking for Florida, 2011 has brought sky-high temps, I didn't realize can make u so sweaty, extra thirsty, frizzy n dry.

So 1 way to protect ourselves from the stinging sun-rays....get a HAT! But not just any hat....be a little fancy schmancy with a FEDORA! A couple blogs back, I mentioned the crochet hat; yes that's in 4 the seaon of course but another Fashionable trend is the Fedora. It doesn't cost that much and it goes with just about anything.

The one I have on in the pic above, I bought from charlotte russe and not only does it shades the sun, it hides a frizz hair-day. If you have a plain coloured hat, you may want to add variety to it by adding a coloured scarf, ribbon or flower. So invest in one if it is your style. THIS IS FASHIONISTA NEWZ!

Swim Swimmer- who got the keys 2 a Bimmer?

Now a Bimmer will look quite swanky with these 2011 Swim styles....but...it's just a play on words from a popular dancehall song by Beenie Man to introduce 2011 Swim styles.

I must admit that these reports were out since April but I held out until I knew most areas were finally experiencing summer (except for South Africa and other sub-equator countries as it is now winter in their region). So here's a quick review with what you can either pull out from your drawers or make an effort to add to your wardrobe.

BRIGHT N BOLD

Whether it's a bikini, monokini or tankini, all the primary colours are taken a shade brighter for added summer pleasure.

TIP: These colours are best on slim figures with small boobs as it highlights and doesn't call attention to small bustlines.

FLIRTY FRILLS

Any girl remembers the frilly underwear you wore when you were a toddler? Well some designers have taken it to an adult-girl level of style. These are very fun and girly, especially for the summer break.

TIP: This style is great on any body type. For Curvy Girls, it masks any extra you may wish to hide around the boob and thigh areas. Small-bodied chics, frills gives the appearance of fuller boobs when worn in a triangular-bikini style.

PLAYFUL PRINTS

Nautical strips, flowers, polka-dots, splashes. You name the print and summer welcomes it.

TIP: Prints are great for all shapes and sizes. For Curvy Girls- prints allow you to wear any style of swimsuit without being conscious of your body as the print draws attention to itself.

MIX & MATCH

I've done this before to save costs on buying a whole swimsuit. You chose a varied-coloured bottom and then buy different tops to match the individual colour on the bottom. Or you can do it vice versa. But this is a fun way to spend less on a swim suit wardrobe. I can attest to the fact I have lots of bikini tops and fewer bottoms (see last ride-side picture above).

TIP:

DON'T MIX 2 DIFFERENT PRINTS THAT ARE NOT IN THE SAME COLOUR RANGE. If you have to, try mixing using the same background colour or format of shapes such as STRIPS & PLAID, FLOWERS & POLKA DOTS OR CIRCULAR DESIGNS....HOWEVER, u do not want to look like a melted box of crayons!

So these beachy styles are calling your name..which one will you surrender to? Check out a couple sites below to view or invest in some of the ideas for 2011. Better yet, most are ON SALE! So until next blog, have fun, Happy 4th to my American friends and as always, be creative. This is FASHIONISTA NEWZ!

Welcum Summer w/ the Glitz, Gets & Glammer!

The beginning of summer brings many things to the atmosphere table- heat, colds & flus and bright coloured hues (clothes, fingers n toes). So far I've experienced the first 2: in Florida temps are between 92-97 degrees and I'm currently getting over an unwanted cold. But hey that doesnt mean I can't incorporate the third!!

GLITZ
Glitter eyeshadows, mani and pedis. For eyeshadows Lancome, Sephora and H.I.P. already have a type out. HIP is more on the affordable side. (TIP) Or if buying eyeshadow isn't in your current budget you can buy a glitter eye pencil for way cheaper and either 1- use it only on the lids or use on the lids then swipe a layer of translucent shadow to create the shimmery effect for less!
I mentioned shimmery nail colours last year but this time it's more your tips than the your nail colour. For summer even though bright colours are hitting the shelves by OPI, Essie & Sally, WHITE nails seems to be the trend in Hollywood. Then they tip it off with a glitzy lacquer.- think Opposite French!

GETS (for less)
maxi dresses, savory summer sandals, crochet hat,s crochet beach bags! These are some of the summer-gets to grab. Maxi dresses are great for any shape and size and can be worn casually or u can glam it up by pairing it with pumps or wedges and chunky jewelry. That alone spells BEACH!!! (TIP) For curvy girls, try a maxi dress with lots of patterns or prints which takes away from extra curves u may not want noticed! Hats for summer assists with NOT exposing yourself to all the harmful sun-rays. Crochet just offers coverage and more air flow. Crochet bags are just for style.

GLAM
Think LWD (little white dress), killer heels, pink lipstick, big 60s hair. Believe it or not all of these have rolled in for the summer. Along with bright gem stone colours, you also have the white dress that have been making appearances. You can pair it with nude pumps and gold accessories or you can ditch the pumps and go for some coloured-killer heels. Pink lips is best incorporated when that is the only colour showing- MAC, YVES ST. LAURENT & LANCOME have great pinky colours to suit your complexion. Big hair is all about bumping it and brining in the major curl factor. Check out shots of actresses back in the 60s and see how they glammed up. (TIP) Try an LDB (little black dress) with killer heels and bold pink lips!

As always have fun, be creative and stay tuned for the swimsuit edition for 2011. The sites below can give you glitz, gets and glam ideas. This is FASHIONISTA NEWZ!
