MAKEUP MUST-HAVES- JAN 2015

Halooo there!

Every time I have to report or write on something, I try to find different things to talk about other than clothing. I've been focusing on SELF this month because at the end of the day, it is you who has to make yourself into who you want to be and not what others 'think' you should be.

Today I wanted to reiterate and capture some MUST HAVES for those of you into makeup a little more than mascara and lipgloss. I've dabbled with these products for months and I must say...they do what they do. Check it out!

COLOUR-CORRECTING: NYX DARK CIRCLE CONCEALER
For those of you who have dark circles, dark lids or dark spots from acne scars can truly utilize a colour correcting concealer to temporarily 'vanish' the issues. Dark circles and spots usually have a blue base to it due to lack of oxygen and pigmentation, so a salmon or orange colour concealer will colour correct that to the point it disappears, it's truly amazing. This NYX brand goes from light to dark to accommodate your skin tone.

STIPPLE BRUSH
I mentioned this briefly before but I must say that a STIPPLE brush truly moves your foundation and powder evenly when you apply in dotting or patting motion PLUS it acts as an eraser...too much blush, fall out eyeshadow etc it blends it in nicely and smoothly. ELF has a great one for just $3US. I love it and it's the best!

SETTING SPRAY: URBAN DECAY ALL NIGHTER SETTING SPRAY
I remember when I use to apply foundation and go. Why do you need all that drama with setting powder and setting spray??? Well my dears...it makes a diff. Even if you dont set your foundation with a powder, if you want your makeup to STAY PUT all day...then you gotta get the URBAN DECAY ALL NIGHTER SETTING SPRAY. It's lightweight, not too wet and truly keeps your art work together. Not expensive but sometimes in the land of makeup..price is not a factor! I've tried ELF & SACHA COSMETICS setting sprays and they are ok...they spray very wet but they do set but they are not as good as UD!.

EYE PRIMER: URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTION
Ever wonder why your eyeshadow creases or disappears at the end of the day? it's because there is nothing holding it to your eyelid. That thing that holds it to your lid is called an eye primer. I have tried many but the Urban Decay Primer Potion is thick, not sticky, spreads evenly and holds that eyeshadow ALLLL DAY, ALLLL NIGHT! They have different types such as a shimmer, anti-wrinkle or with a tint but I use the one that disappears into your skin. You don't need much as a little goes a long way and it is worth the price!

So for those of you that like to dabble a little deeper in makeup, these are just a few MUST-HAVES  to keep, replenish and stock up on unless the formula changes.....which so far it hasn't (crosses fingers). As always HAVE FUN and BE CREATIVE. THIS IS FASHIONISTA NEWZ!

MAKEUP CARE- Jan 2015

Helloooo out there!

I've been sick with severe sinusitis for a couple weeks and now I'm better to blog a subject I've been meaning to touch on...how you care for your makeup.

Just like hair care and skin care there is such a thing as makeup care. Here are a few but very important suggestions.

1. DO NOT SHARE MAKEUP
This is so key! Makeup is a very personal thing like deodorant, soap or underwear. Your makeup has your body chemistry or dna already on it so you would develop a rash or any allergic reaction. However, someone else using your makeup, who has their own germs and bacteria, once that mixes with the ingredients in the product and your own, it may cause a reaction. It doesn't matter what it is, lipstick, lipgloss, mascara, eyeshadow....if anyone asks to borrow any of these politely say, I'm sorry but I don't share my makeup or if you do give it to them, let them keep it. A lot of times ladies get eye infections, rashes and cold sores and not sure how they got it and it can be as simple as sharing makeup.

2. WASH YOUR MAKEUP BRUSHES/ SPONGES
Once again, this is general health for you and your makeup. If you use brushes or sponges or beauty blenders, please wash them either immediately or every 2-3 days with anti-bacterial liquid soap. Leaving your brushes for weeks not washed causes a build up of germs. Remember it's not just product left on the brushes but dead skin cells and dust. If you have sensitive, acne prone skin like me..that's an instant recipe for a breakout...I already know.
I always get asked if I wash my brushes after each client I do makeup on. Ofcourse. If it's 1 client, I wash immediately. If I have multiple clients, I have 4 sets of brushes cases  and if that's not enough I spray immediately with alcohol and reuse. It is very important to have clean tools when applying makeup.

3. THROW OUT YOUR MAKEUP
If you look at your cosmetic, there is usually a number that say 12M or 24M, which simply means it's ineffective after 12 or 24 months. If you run out of the product before the expiry time..great. If not, depending on the product it can last longer than 2 years such as eyeshadows. MAC shadows are pricey so I know it hurts to throw it out after a year. But they last a while I think 5 years is just to long to keep a product. When it gets clammy, oil separates from the product or has a smell...DUMP IT!

4. PROTECT YOUR MAKEUP
Just like you protect certain foods with a fridge, your makeup needs to be protected also to keep away dust and germs. Please keep all eyeshadow palettes closed when done, don't leave your mascara open, your primers, foundations lipsticks uncovered. It's even neater when you can place your collection of makeup in a case or organizer.

Even though you love makeup, still take care of your cosmetics and tools to assist in great skin and flawless application. As usual,, have fun and be creative. THIS IS FASHIONISTA NEWZ!

IT'S 2015- FOCUS ON YOU

Every year I always start off with brand new trends for the season. I will but before I do that I wanted to start my first post for the year about  focusing on self.

I realized for a year to be a great year, it doesn't depend on others or the day but it depends on you and how you view situations, opportunities and people. Regardless of what occurs, it is up to you to take the good and maximize it. So for this year, let's try the following to make it a great year:

BE POSITIVE AND RELAX

Each morning you realize you are awake, be thankful and declare it is a great day. No matter how the day went, focus on the positives and you'll realize it was indeed a great day..you were late but maybe you missed being in an accident; your favorite lunch was not made that day but maybe you missed being food poisoned; your spouse was too tired to start dinner but that can be an option to dine out and spend time together; Things didn't work out how you wanted it to? It's OK. Everything happens for a reason. Either try again or another opportunity will come again. Take a deep breath and let it go. We have to let things work out themselves without stressing. Note the miracles you've experienced and by year's end, you'll see it was an amazing year.

EXERCISE
This is so important for you and your body that you can't imagine. Yes everybody hits the gym for the first 3 months or the 1st month and are not consistent. But consistency is a mind set. You don't have go to the gym, you can walk or ride around your neighborhood for 15-30 mins. Don't want to walk, ride or not sure of the safety of your neighborhood? Do jumping jacks or jump rope for 15 mins inside, run the stairs, do squats and lunges or even a workout dvd of pilates, yoga or zumba. Make exercise FUN not a death sentence. You just need your heart to get a workout which by the year end you'll notice that you have more energy, less stress, more toned areas and keeps you looking young.

SKIN CARE
Regardless of what your skin type is, try to find the right cleansers and moisturizers for your skin. Especially for acne-prone skin like mine, I always look for products with salicylic acid (2%)which helps clean pores and prevent breakouts. As we get older, especially late 20's and early 30's we need to start using good skin renewal products with retinol and anti-aging ingredients to get a jump start on wrinkles and fine lines. Get a good regimen like twice a day or once a day, pamper your skin and by year's end you'll see consistency or an improvement. Avoiding stress, smoking, drinking and eating healthy plus smiling more also helps in having great skin.

SELF LOVE
I don't think we speak much on this. A lot of people walk around with big smiles and inside they are truly hurt or suffering. You can see it in their eyes as your eyes are truly the window to your soul. We must be happy inside and with ourselves. Stop comparing ourselves with others as everybody has their own life story and regardless to what you are going through or not going through, what negative things people say to you or about you please, remember YOU ARE WORTH IT, YOU ARE LOVED and YOU ARE AMAZING.Don't ever depend on somebody else to make you happy..that's your job to do and YOU CAN DO IT!. Have daily reminders that YOU ARE STRONG, BLESSED, HAPPY, CONFIDENT and VALUABLE.

We need to focus more on SELF..work on ourselves, take care of ourselves and accept ourselves. 2015 IS AN AMAZING YEAR and I wish every one of you the same. THIS IS FASHIONISTA NEWZ!   Hyper Smash
